Pyla, or Pile, is a mixed village located in the Larnaca district. It is located only four kilometers south of Pergamos village, adjacent to the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia. It is also one of only four villages located within the United Nations Buffer Zone. The origin of the name is obscure. It is the only village in Cyprus still inhabited by both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. 
 
Historical Population:

As can be seen from the chart above, in the Ottoman census of 1831, Christians (Greek Cypriots) constituted the majority of the village (62%). This percentage continued until 1960 with a slight increase (64%).

Displacement:

From its original population no one was displaced.

Current Inhabitants:

Currently the village is mainly inhabited by its original villagers. According to UNFICYP the current population of the village is 1,337 (850 Greek Cypriots and 487 Turkish Cypriots).
